I recently purchased a 50# Predator recurve by Ron Pittsley.  The Gold Tip 3555 that I have seem to be a bit light.  I'm thinking about trying some 5575 gold tips and putting the 100 grain brass insert in them and experimenting with 125 and 145 grain tips.  I have a 28 inch draw but like shooting a 29 or 30 inch arrow.

Any suggestions?

I think that would be about right. I bought a dozen 5575s recently to shoot out of my 58pd BW but found I was way under spined. So, I put 200 gr tips on them and shot them out of my 45# Bear Grizzly. They fly great out of the Bear.

I shoot 32 inch long 5575s with a 50 grain brass insert and 145 head from my 54 pound Elburg at 30 inch draw and my Kodiak Hunter which is 47@30. Very versitle arrow.

I shoot a 51@27" carbon/foam Zipper SXT recurve, probably pulling 52-53# and likes a stiff arrow, had to cut 55/75 GTs down to 28.75 (as short as I could go) to shoot either 250 grain heads or 150 grain heads with 100 grain insert.  

You will be close with that setup.  I wanted to use 250 grains up front so I had to cut it close on length.  I would start with 125 (225 total) up front and full length and see what you get, once you cut you can't go back.  If you want them shorter, you may have to increase weight up front.

I would hold back on the 100 gr inserts and try the standard aluminum ones first or possibly 50 gr brass inserts.If you start with 100 gr inserts,a 125 gr head may be too heavy.Tune with the standard insert and see what front end weight it wants.

By the way, those Predator bows are awesome, almost bought one last January at KZoo.

I am shooting 5575 GT's full length out of my 52# Pittsley predator and they are darts.  No weight on the insert, and a 125gr head.  I have a
32+" draw, so have to go easy on front end weight.

I assume you are going for a heavier arrow?  I have a number of bows that are 50-54# @ 28 that I draw 29 1/2.  I shoot a lot of 30 inch 3355s with 50 grain inserts and 200 grain heads.  I end up with an arrow in 545 to 550 range and get great flight.  Clean passthroughs on 3 whitetails last year.  I can't ask for much more.

I think they will be too stiff for you. The Gold Tip are light shafts compared to similar spines in others. For hunting purposes I would suggest going with a shaft that has more grains per inch like a Carbon Express 150. They fly great from all my 50 lb bows. no matter what weight I put up front. I also like the nocks better as well.

3555 - 8.6 gpi, spine .500
5575 - 9.3 gpi, spine .400
150's - 10 gpi, spine .487

Too stiff, especially if cut less than full length.

Forget about 100gr inserts and get some 200 or 250 field points. Much easier to change front end weight with field points/broadheads than messing with brass inserts.

I do think if you want a shorter arrow and only plan on putting 200 upfront, you may be over-spined.  But, if shooting a longer arrow with 250 up front and pulling at least 50#, 55/75 should work for many efficient bows with FF string. I was surprised how much I had to cut down the 55/75s to get them to work.  There is no way 35/55 would work for me with 250 up front. I agree on test kit or seeing if someone can loan or give you a 400 spine arrow to play around with before buying a dozen.

Tom, I chose GTs because they were lighter for spine, that way I could put 250 up front and still have about a 10gpi arrow (515 grains v. 570 in 150s or 600 in 250s).  But this year I'm trying Trad Only's, which are a little heavier.

I'm a fan of the standard insert/heavy point combo.  The three bows in my signature all shoot a 29" GT Trad 5575, standard insert, and a 200 grain point. Bare shaft flies dead straight out to 35 yards.

Out of my 54lb predator i have 28" GT 55/75 50gr brass insert and 225 gr point flying great. The 35/55 fly with a regular insert and 175gr point.

I shoot 31" 5575s out of both my 49# recurve and 53# longbow (@29") with 175 gr. heads and standard inserts. They fly better out of my recurve than my longbow, but out of the longbow they bare shaft straight but high. But fletched arrows are pretty accurate (and I'm kinda busy with the life thing) so I'm leaving them alone for now.

My recurve is a 3/16th center shot and I bare tuned up to 7795s which was a mistake. I built up the striker plate and the 5575s dialed right in. They fly like darts feathers or no feathers.

Since I've mushroomed the ends of some stump shooting I'm thinking of cutting them off and doing some experimenting with heavier heads, a little shorter arrows and maybe some alum footings.

Besides the strike plate issue, length in 1/4" increments had more to do with tunability than weight.

I have a 56# Predator and shoot the same arrows.  You may find them a bit stiff unless you go 275gn or more on the front.  That is what I use on 31" plus arrows.

I shoot 35-55's cut to 29" out of a 52# St. Joe River long bow with a 100gr. insert and a 250gr. feild point. Flys great.

i shoot the 55-75 out of my predator 46#s @ 28 so 52#s @ my 30 in draw length
i leave em full length and use the 100 grn brass insert and 125 points
