I havent had to straighten a doug fir arrow yet....lost some, broke some, made a bunch....but never had to straighten one....

I agree with the others.  Doug fir makes a good moderately heavy shaft. On the other hand, I've never had any trouble straightening hickory shafts or keeping them straight.  I seal them properly, of course.  As Grey said in the first response, wood is wood.  If you want something that is inert and doesn't change, stick with carbon or aluminum.
