So Tracy and Mike gave us their most excellent adventure. . . but I have a story that shows just how dangerous turkey hunting with a bow can be!

I headed out for a later afternoon hunt today.  I set up the blind (I hate hunting out of blinds!) at the top of a steep slope that runs down to a cliff.  The top of the slope flattens out just at little, and birds like to get to that top, flying out over the slope and cliff to roost in big sycamores above the creek.  So it is a good evening spot for that last hour.       :scared:          :knothead:

The entire fiasco stopped short of the 15' cliff as I hit a deadfall.  There I lay, inside on the roof of the blind, looking at the sky through the floor, the chair folded up and I am kind of trashed. I am wondering if anything, including me, is broke.

In short order I determined everything was fine. I had to unzip the blind and roll out. Best I can tell I did 2-3 full rolls before stopping.       :goldtooth:

  Easy to laugh at that mental picture, especially now that we know you are ok...could have turned out alot different.

Ouch! That was a wild ride!! Glad you survived. I was picturing the scene from Deliverance when Jon Voight, stuck the Arrow in his side.

Dang ole Blind!

It's a good thing the bow was left behind. All you needed was a sharp blade to turn that blind into a Cuisinart. Glad you're ok.

Dan,

My flight is Wednesday night and I think I may have to reconsider getting together for a hunt while I am home.  Glad your ok and can't wait to hear more.

I used to always say that ground blinds were safer than tree stands because I never heard of anyone falling out of a ground blind but, I won't be able to say that anymore!!!!  :biglaugh:

Thanks for the good will!  I am 51 this year and though my size and wt. is the same as when in college- I am definitely beginning to lose my agility.  Oh boy. . .  can't see a blood trail and can't keep my balance even on the ground. . .    :banghead:    "[dntthnk]"

You just gave me another reason to hate hunting out of blinds.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

Kinda gives you a whole new appreciation for brush blinds, doesn't it? Glad you were not hurt.
