Dig it.  I took my first deer ever last year with a green plaid flannel I got from goodwill for $2.  I love to brag about it when guys are talkin about their high $ scent lock, hunts for you while you sleep gear.

Hey those are some nice shirts. Bet they work well.

Actually, I bought those 2 shirts, 2 Octobers in row, while on my way to ShrewHaven. Our good friend Gus owns Northwoods outfitters  up there, stopping at his place and buying a new wool shirt is becoming a tradition! Lots of good luck and hung deer in those 2 shirts!!!

Those look like mine Roger. I can't find a hat like that big enough for me though.

Roger,

I'm fortunate enough to have some of the more "popular" camo tucked away in my "huntin' box", but my absolute favorite piece of hunting clothing is a heavy wool hooded pullover that I bought for about $12 at a norhern Michigan grocery store about 18 years ago. To this day, it is still my go to piece of camo. Its gray/brown plaid pattern works as well at concealing me as ANY of my high dollar stuff. Got the idea years ago from seeing old photos of Gene, Barry, GFA et al standing over their Pope and Youngers. Figured that if it was effective enough to fool the animals they hunt, it would probably work in my neck of the woods too.

Good thread!

Here in the south we have a lot of tree with Spanish moss in them.. Over the years I have hunted out of some of those trees in a regular grey sweat suit....  Worked pretty good, cheap too.

Hey Roger, is that a 1967 Fred Bear tigercat hanging over your coat rack? I think I have that bows brother..LOL

While I do own some ASAT camo, this is what I use when the temperatures drop:

Works just fine.

I could never understand why in the early 80's when I first began hunting that checked flannel shirts and brown denim or a pair of green overalls was all we needed then but now if it is leafy & costs $500 it works better , must have been better hunters back then or just didn't know enough to embrace all the modern camo . Just another example of consumerism ! regards Perry

Does anyone have black/white photo of plaid in wood suroundings.  I'm just curious.  My wife will be upset at me if this works just as good as my camo i bought 2 years ago.

Robhood23

Ask yourselves this. If you wore BLAZE orange would you kill as many animals. The answer is YES as long as you kept still. I have shot just as many deer while wearing blaze orange as I have shot wearing the expensive camo. Go figure!!!!  MOVE AT THE RIGHT TIMES AND YOU WILL NOT BE SEEN no matter what you are wearing. If anyone wants to disprove this send me something to wear and I WILL SHOOT A DEER IN IT>
 Shoot straight and god bless,

Slayer1 - Yep, good eye.

Matt, I don't have any black/white comparison photos, but rest assured plaid works for deer. Heck, drab solid colors work.
