Had a week off for Spring break and got to fly home to CA and try my luck at some hogs. What was supposed to be a four day hunt turned into a 2 day hunt but I had a great time with my Dad and really enjoyed the R&R.

I want to really thank FerretWyo for giving me pointers on how to hunt this place. He was very kind in sharing his knowledge and i really appreciated it. Thank you.

Unfortunately because of our limited time I wasnt able to really give the pigs a run for their money.

This was on Vandenberg AFB

My truck all loaded up & my trusty pup!

First Day down near the beach. Had great weather the whole time.

We covered a lot of ground and checked all these little oak bottoms for bedded pigs. Found lots of rooting but no pigs

then we climbed to some higher country

Beautiful country! That's a lot different than the hog habitat we have!

That yellow mustard weed was over 6 feet tall making it tough to glass

Really spectacular though

And here is my bow perched along side me and some binos i got from BowhunterGA here on the classifieds. Top notch guy if you get a chance to deal with him.

All in all I always have a great time hunting whether successful or not. The pops and i will return!

"instinctive archery" is more like playing the violin. Without practice you may remember the mechanics, but you will not be a virtuoso.

I love hunting with my boys.  I do not care if I am even armed. As much fun as you had, your dad made memories you cannot imagine.
Are you a midn?

No need for a kill in country like that. Awesome pics. That Ferret is an encyclopedia on hunting all over the country and will set you straight.

Thats beautiful country! is that private land?
What  was your setup for this hunt?

DWRay

Excellent thread.  That is the type of country that I used to love to hunt before the foot amputation.  I am kinda jealous.

Thank you for looking. I've gotten a lot of enjoyment out of looking at other members' hunt pictures so I felt obligated to return the favor.

Notice the ocean in the background?

We got access to Vandenberg Air Force Base because i am a midn at the naval academy. I was really honored to be able to hunt there among the other servicemen.

Bayhunter, my bow is a 60# predator hunter and the arrows are tapered cedars I made last month with some Stos 160's out front.

Again thanks for looking.

Looks like a great hunt.  Glad you were able to spend it with your dad.  Thanks for sharing.  Good luck at the Academy.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

Looks like you and your dad had a great hunt in some beautiful country  :)

California Hogs for the most part are a timing thing (at least where I hunt)... they are constantly on the move but its sure fun to try and catch them coming thru... There are some good deer on that land. Some of my customers have shown me some dandy pictures!!!
