Big hole looks like it might be from a woodpecker.

Friend of mine had a tree in his backyard at his cottage like that and said he always saw one picking away at it. Eventually it caused the tree to break.

we been stumpin here in Maine was in the mid 70's today and 80's tomorrow, wierd in shorts t-shirt digging around in the snow for arrows
