She came home today..My Hatfield takedown at 70 pounds.I found a 58" string that I never used before but I don't remember if it is 12 or 14 strand. If it is 12 you think there is a chance the bow might explode on me or something?Should I go ahead and order a new one just in case?

If it is a dacron I would use 16 strands,if say like D97 I would go with 12 strands.A 12 strand D97 is strong enough for upto a 100# bow.I shot a 12 strand D97 on a 83# DQ Bamboo Longhunter.

If the bow is fast flight capable than I would go with the 14 strand string just for insurance. A 10 strand string is strong enough for a 70# bow but I like to have more strands than needed in case one breaks or gets cut while I am hunting. If it is a B50 string I would not go below an 18 strand string.

What string material?  If it's dacron, 12 will hold up (for a while at least), but it will stretch like crazy.  In dacron, I'd go with 16.

If it's "Fast Flight" rated, it depends on the material.  12 strands would be plenty in most of them, but in some it would be "iffy".
