OMG! I did a very beginner stage crossfit workout after work today.

Right after my workout I staggered in the house and got my bow and one arrow.

Still out of breath I shot one arrow at my 3D deer from 30 yards.

I was amazed to see it strike right in the center of the kill zone! Of course this is on level ground at 650 ft above sea level.

I think I have found my new elk hunt conditioning program.

See you in a couple days Julian.  Then I can forget these workouts and start to "pig out" on some awesome southern BBQ.  I'll worry about getting back to working out when I return.

Crossfit is amazing.  I swear by it for mountain conditioning!

I only do 60%-70% of the recommended weight and reps and it still almost makes me puke.   :)

Train to Hunt uses exercises that stress the same muscle groups that you use hunting in a crossfit type design. It is periodized so that you peak on your conditioning around the end of August (the start of hunting season). While not quite as intense as the Crossfit I belong to it will DEFINATELY get you into great shape and it isn't terribly expensive, although it has went up $$ since they started online last year.

Yeah....cross-fit is no joke....I could barely move after some of those workouts when I was doing it regularly much less shoot. I agree...it would be an excellent way to prepare for a intense hunt....or just about anything!

I thought about running you through a Crossfit workout but figured you'd be too sore to hunt at Ray's and that would suck!  We'll pig out on some pulled pork instead.   :D

Good idea to shoot at an elevated heart rate.  If you're in elk country you could be on a long climb and suddenly see that big bull  step into view.  At that moment you'll need to focus.  I follow that logic.

sounds like you got it right!

I have slowly picked up modified crossfit workouts in prep for the mountains. If I see an elk and have to do hanging cleans, sand bag sprints and tire flips before I shoot him, I will be set LOL.

All kidding aside, they are brutal workouts. I am learning what I'm made of, which is somewhat akin to Play-Doh and whatever I ate right before the workout.

Love the cross-fit idea, I heard there are some gyms opening in my area, I'll have to check em out.....DB

I may have to give this a try. I already workout, but incorporate very little cardio. Sounds like it would be a good break from the monotony of strength training.

I've heard great things about it and have several friends that do it. I just can't justify the price.

I am a crossfit NUT! I am also a bowhunting NUT! I do the WODs in the morning for Physical Training instead of the new Army PT. After the workout I go to the Archery range on post here and shoot about a dozen just so I get used to shooting when I am smoked. It is a good time. With the time change this week however it is too dark to shoot after the workout so yesterday and today I just shoot a dozen or so in my garage focusing on form.
God Bless
