Looking for some advice please, on best carrier to use, customs documentation required, expected transit time, etc.  Bow is a take down model, so the package length isn't an issue for once ;-)

I shipped a T/D longbow from the USA to Norway and did so through the post office. They have the custom forms to fill out and can weight and measure the packaged bow and tell you the cost. My experience was good it all went without a hitch. Took 14 days from time I shipped till he received the bow. Get the delivery confirmation tracking and buy the insurance. The shipping costs were added to the cost of the bow which the buyer paid up front.

Write archery supplies on the customs form. No issues with using USPS.

United States Post office. Fill out the customs declaration form, which is basically just: merchandise, how many, weight,what is in there (write sport bow), and value.
Thats it. Buyer is responsible for picking up parcel at his/her respective customs office.
Costs are about $45-$50.

US Post Office is your best bet using priority mail.  The Customs form is on hand and easy to complete and the last two I sent to France cost me a little more than $40.

I send dozens of bows in Europe without any difficult or issue,all the shipping company are set for Custom forms.USPS priority is safe and cheap!

Depends on what country; I have had real problems shipping to Germany using USPS.

I have received more than 15 bows from the US!! and have never a problem. Most was shipped with USPS priority International....

Ive only gotten 3 bows from the US with USPS but also without any problems.
You dont need much paperwork, the receiver needs a bill or print from paypal or the like with wich to prove what he payed for it, thats about it.
Shipping time is about 10-14 days, but customsprocessing may make that into 4 weeks sometimes.

What do a Custombow and Customs processing a bow have in common? You may have to wait a long while for it....

My problems were 'customs declaration' PO regs in Germany do not allow importation of a 'weapon'. I'm just the messenger.
In another case the box was over 60". Another time the recipient wanted a lower declaration-that would have jeopardized the insured amount. In the 'long box' instance I shipped FedEx-190.00. In the declared amount situation we agreed to the higher amount. In the 'weapons' case I decided to call it off. Good luck maybe your shipment will be a smooth one.
