No problem with the color stain.  I love looking at all curly maple.  Just trying to get an eye for something to match up with zircote.  Thought a yew color or olive ash color would work good...Mike

Geezer

Nathan,

Beautiful bow!  My next bow will be grey like yours and now I've found the limb veneer that'll be ordered with it.  -Thanks for posting.

Staining veneers under glass is kind of a pain in the arse. it's very difficult to get a nice even stain job.

Staining a riser can be done too, but repairing any scratches, or getting it refinished requires sanding the whole thing down to bare wood in some cases. If a bowyer doesn't have additional charges for stain work, he should. IMO I do..... Kirk

This is a curly maple I beam with Macassar ebony.

I wouldn't go there if i was you Roy.    :biglaugh:
i wasn't kidding about the extra work and extra charges for staining.

on the other hand.... i've been experimenting with tinting clear coats with some really cool results.

This isn't curly maple, and i'm not trying to high jack a thread, but look at the difference between the clear coating and the ones with an amber tinting.

I'll get a photo of the curly maple posted later today. it's SERIOUSLY cool looking.

This thread is about stained curly maple and i had to share this other bocote riser to show you the difference. I apologize for getting side tracked

Now here are a few riser blocks with the curly maple with amber tinting.
