Any folks experienced with flying with a one piece longbow.? Was all set to take a takedown West this fall,  but it's hard to leave my Toelke Whip at home.  Anything i should no if i go that route?

I have a Plano "Airliner" fishing rod case that works great. It's adjustable and it'll hold a couple of longbows, an arrow tube, and some extra clothes for padding. No problems so far.

We ship thousands of skis out of my airport weekly at this time of year.  Some of them even have wheels on one end for easy dragging.
Those ski bags will accept your PVC tube along with much of your gear and weigh less than the max to get your fee into the "extra" fare.  Fees depend on the airline and the weight of things.  
Call the airline and ask for fees for ski bags
You can carry a large pack as carry on.  I see all manner of stuff going thru screening as carry on.
Ask questions and do M
NOT be afraid the politely ask for the station manager if you don't understand rates or procedures
Line the tube with some clothing to pad the bow.

I made a bow case out of 6"PVC pipe. It held 3 bows and made it to Saskatchewan and back no problems.

I shipped one to Kodiak and then checked it as baggage on the way home.  Just a PVC tube with some padding around the bow.

I would suggest you look at the ski bag idea versus the fly rod or PCV tube option.   A big difference between a fly rod and a bow is a fly rod you can carry on.  The bow must be checked and with most airlines that means a checked bag fee of usually $25 to $50 each.  So I would want to pack the bow with other items like - clothes, knives, calls, arrows, etc - so I  only had one bag to check and one bag to deal with.   The ski bag or something similar allows for that.  And of course, knives and broad heads also need to be checked.

Ohh if you are going to bear country, a sidearm needs to be checked too and you cannot bring pepper spray at all on a plane.  You would have to buy it at your destination.

And I know we all have that one special bow, but I think I would go with the takedown.  I think you will be happier.  Travelling with a tradebow on planes is very doable, but it isn't as simple as we tradition folks usually migrate too.  A takedown will not require any special purchases and fit in anything your arrows will.  I just wrap my takedown in my hunting clothes for padding, put a rubberband around my arrows, put the knive and BHs in a small hard tacklebox, and toss it all in a big duffle bag with everything else.  Never had a problem...

I have a duffle bag from the military for my take down.  That and my arrows go in a tube.  First my boots at teh bottom, tube in center, with all my clothing items around it for padding, then my pack on top.  Lock it and let it go.  they never will ask what's in it most of the time.  Easier with the take down than one of the one piece bows
