Shot some today.Still trying to figure out the correct form and how much finger to put on the string and all that.Slowly getting better but got a ways to go.

If you have any form questions I would recommend having someone video tape you while shooting so you can see what you are doing right and wrong. As far as for the amount of your fingers you put on the string. Some people prefer a deep hook while others just use the tips. See what works best for you.

Cut the learning curve and get a book or video on shooting. I like G Fred Asbells books for one.

I would recommend getting the book, "shooting the stickbow" by Anthony camera.

I am a big asbell fan, but he teaches one form and one style. That may or may not work for everybody.

More than anything, I always recommend especially to a new shooter close range blank bale shooting. No targets or anything to aim at.

Stand close to bale so you don't have to worry about hitting/missing.

Doing this will allow you to focus on form, release, back tension, anchor, follow thru, etc.

I agree with the blank bale but it seems to me you have to KNOW what you're looking for, what you're practicing.. Like Rod said, "perfect practice makes perfect scores."

BUT if you're instilling bad habits at the blank bale it's not so benifical..  Either a coach or a couple of the good DVD's that are out.. Master of the Barebow 3 comes to mind, I also liked the one with Larry Yein.. I think that was MBB2.

BOHO

get the Rick Welch series IMO. The Accuracy Factor is fantastic
TGMM Brotherhood of the Bow
Black Widow Recurve
Mike Corby Special
DAS Recurve

Buy the 4 Masters of the Bare Bow Series videos for sure!  They will explain what takes years to learn.  Check out Rick Welch's videos, and when you can take a class. Rick Welch or Rod Jenkins are great options for this.   Definately buy several good books and read them.   Become the Arrow is a good all around book that will move you forward.  Check out the Shooters Forum on here it has a lot of great tips and help.  Plus you can ask questions and get good answers.  Enjoy the journey.   That is the real plus of shooting trad.  It is no longer about the equipment, it is instead about enjoying the path that you take.

Skill is not born into anyone.  It is earned thru hard work and perseverance.

I meant learn from the book, and practice what you learn on the blank bale.
