I just picked up a wool dark blue/black Plad Swanndri bush shirt with hood excellent for shooting a bow, but I'm not sure about Blue as a hunting color you don't see blue as an clothing option for hunting much, not that a color blind animal would care but what are your thoughts on blue

Should work fine. Your main concern is your movement or the lack thereof to attain the game you are pursuing.

Steven, I'd be happy to field test it while I am out scoutin' and  this comin' huntin' season and I'll let you know my findings....

Like Mark says - it's all about movement - many animals have died from bowhunters wearin' blue jeans....

If it is dark, as in Navy blue I wouldn't be afraid of it.  However, if it is approaching sky blue I wouldn't wear it hunting.  

We've known for decades that birds see blue. Turkey for example, and birds that might alert game to you such as the Blue Jay. The fact that birds see colors quite well is evidenced by the male bird's often bright hues, which attracts females and deter males.

I've read research in just this past year that whitetail deer also detect blue better than we thought.

Can it work, surely!  However, the beast has too many advantages when we bowhunt to give them one more.  Of course if you are in a blind or in a tree stand with good cover and you get there before light...??

I hunt slow stalk but have walked up on deer and elk fast walk scouting so the color is the only factor that I am unsure of also this a super quiet material, just going to have to try it when the game is not in the line

As others have said movement is what they notice most and yes animals see colors too but not the same color as our eyes interpret it-blue to us is not blue to them.
IMO eyeballing an animal while stalking is way worse than what you are wearing.
If there is any amount of reflection the color or pattern does not matter-they will spot you anyway.

Couldn't find the article, but read just recently that the one color that deer see well is blue! Might want to do some research on that.  :eek:

I've killed a couple muleys spot and stalk wearing blue levis and in one case, they saw me in the wide open, but didn't seem to pick up the blue.  

I'd be more concerned about looking like a black glob which is what you would be if hunting any open country.  In heavy timber it probably wouldn't matter.

Nate Steen likes blue jeans to hunt in.  I think he knows a thing or three about that.  Even has white glass on his bow.  :eek:

there was an article years ago in DDH that had an article that was based on what colors deer(whitetails) could see -  scientific research based on how their eye was made up . Well they came up with blues and yellows they tend to see more of .  

I've read that some hunters hang a blue flag to attract bears.

Coyotes see blue real good so do deer . Ive taken lots of coyotes in blue jeans . Movement will get you. Get away from your human form and you can be a rain bow. IMO.

I have always heard that they can see blue better than other colrs but I dont think that blue is an alarm bell for them. Blue is a color found in nature. I used to hunt over a meadow that was full of little blue flowers.. Movement and outline are more important especially movement. I had to laugh when a friend got busted by a doe and blamed it on the fact that he hadnt camo'd the black glass on the back of his bow. He was sitting in a brush blind and his limb was just another stick to the doe until he sat up and moved! I say go ahead and wear your jeans. Stick to the shadows and dont make your move until the time is right. Sorry for being so long winded but I am a born story teller.

A deers eyes have longer rods (or cones, I can't remember) than a humans and they pick up blue and purple wave lengths much they way our eyes pick up flourescent orange.  Yup, they see it very well!  This is why they see so well in those dusk and dawn hours. Regardless, they still make mistakes if there is no movement and I know a lot of Western hunters hunt in blue jeans.  Blue would be my last choice for hunting apparel though.

I wear blue jeans all the time and don't have a problem getting close enough to animals to shoot.  Even had bears walk right by me while wearing blue jeans...however,  I don't go out and buy brand new ones...I use faded ones that have seen alot of washing machine use.
