If there are any Washington elk hunters I need some help. My son is stationed at Fairchild Airforce base, and my nephew will be stationed in Washington Army base not sure what the name is. Anyway me and my brother would love to come out to Washington and go Elk hunting and posibly take them along if they can go, What I need is an outfitter to contact We are looking at 3 years down the road. Thanks for the help.

Hey Dave, The army base is probibly Ft. Lewis. From Ft.Lewis you can go a couple hours in most any direction and be in elk. If you hunt the west side plan on some very thick areas that some times youre more in knife fighting range rather than bow shooting range.... If you go east to the cascades youre in more open areas. We usually hunt on Chinook pass around Whistlin Jacks lodge in the early season and hunt just west of Yakima in the late season. I dont know of any outfitters but Im sure there are some in the state. Good luck on youre quest and hope it all comes together for ya. SHOOT STRAIGHT AND TRACK HARD>>>> Kenny

Thanks for the informaton Kenny, Just have one question for you, Is the land that you mentioned public. Don't meant to be ignorent, I know nothing of Washington. I'LL have my son and nephew start checking things out also. My son has been in Fairchield for a year, my nephew will be stationed there in a few weeks.

Dave,

With that location you might look at Idaho too.  The elk hunting is quite a bit better IMHO and the prices about the same.

Mike,
We plan on looking at Idaho and possibly Montana also. One of the guys that is going with us used to guide in Montana. We are just tring to get to Washington to see our boys and make it one big trip. Plan on going for two weeks. I'll take any ideas you guys gave. Open for suggetions.

Dave everything we hunt is public land or public access to private land. There is alot more private land on the west side but there is still plenty of state/fed lands to be had. Kenny
