I have always used wood arrows but tried some aluminum ones and I'm thinking of using them.  I have heard that a 600 gr arrow would be ideal for elk hunting.  With my draw weight at 60lbs and a  29.5" arrow if I use the recommended 2216 that arrow would only weigh 354.59 gr. so I would need to add almost 250 gr. to the point.  Is this right?

The Whittler

A 2216 @ 29"-30" with 125gr point should weigh 520gr-530gr. If I remember right?

If you use the 2216 then total arrow weight without point will be somewhere around 380gr. So you would need about a 225gr point/broadhead to get to 600gr. You could also go with a 100gr insert and a 125gr point/broadhead.

I would also think that you would need to paper tune or bareshaft tune (or both) starting with the shaft at full length till you get just the right arrow that tunes well for your bow.

When I shot 60# bows in my younger days, I opted for the 2020 with 175 head and insert giving me a total weight of more than 580 gr.

I'd look at 2219's with a 140-150 gr. head.

I shoot 2216's out of 60-65# recurves and longbows with great results. 150 gr. broadhead works just fine and I don't sweat penetration.

I shoot 30" 2117s with 200 grains up front.  They're supposed to be underspined for my 63 lb. draw, but they fly perfectly.  Right at 600 grains total arrow weight.

Maybe try a 2219? That should easily get you to 600 grains.

My 2216's(XX78's) are 28" long,5-1/4" feathers with exactly 200 grains up front and weigh exactly 600 grains, they fly like darts out of 54 to 65#'s great arrows.
