I was thinking about cutting a hole in the Ice and trying to decoy in some pike the same way you would for spearing. Any do this? if so got any tips or any pics?

From an avid ice fisherman: Really tough to get a shooting-sized fish up near the ice. Most of what you'll see (if you see any) will be 5 feet or more down. This is the reason many pike spearers use a very heavy spear/fork combination.

Another tip: Excedrin Migraine...for the inevitable headache resulting from staring into a hole for a couple hours. It's when you look away that the fish glides past. Murphy goes everywhere....

Watch your toes. In my opinion it doesnt sound like a safe thing to do, how big is the whole 8" hit the ice and you could get ice in your face or worst an arrow part.

The holes are three feet by three feet. LOL we have a 10x10 shanty thats blacked out. No light coming in makes it way easier to see the fish and harder for them to see you  we are planing to set it up where there is only 4 to 6 feet of water. This is the depth we use for spearing, and with a blacked out shanty and some go decoying we have brought them right in while spearing. but this is going to be our first try doing this bowfishing......

When I read the title I had to read the rest to make sure my eyes weren't playing tricks on me.

Never heard of doing this, but I guess it would be considered different.

When we were kids we would cut a two foot wide hole all the way accross the river (25yds.)and then take steel posts, start up stream from the hole and pound on the ice to drive the fish thru the hole. It worked great. Got alot of fish. Now they would put us in jail for doin that!!!

Funny thing, I never, read never watch the outhouse channels but was bored last evening and thumbing through the guide the show Archery Affliciation info was bowfishing so thought I'd watch. They chopped a big hole in ice with a axe, put a blind over top of it and shot some carp. Thought it actually looked pretty cool and something I might want to try! He was using a Hoyt recurve for the record. lol
Most people get rich by making more money than they have needs, me, I just reduced my needs!
