Headed to Ocmulgee WMA yesterday with a good friend Gary Bashler . I was mostly wanting to do some scouting for the Springtime St. Judes Hunt. Knowing if I can find a lot of sign regardless if its nocturnel or not I will be able to come back in the Spring and catch them in the daytime.Gary is a brand new stickbow convert and had never been to Ocmulgee. It is a very beautiful place and so big you can always explore new places. Heck we found a new tract of at least a 1,000 acres I did`nt even know was there and its archery only to boot.
We had a good trip and killing a pig would have been nice but I was more intent on covering ground and finding sign for the next hunt so I would have several hot ares to choose from on a 3-4 day hunt.
One of the highlites of the day was at about 12:30 watching a Mature Tom strut around a Hen for about 5 minutes. We saw a group of I think 7-8 Toms together and then 2 more after that. I missed a running squirrel on a limb by less than an inch and almost stepped on a rabbit that made me near wet my pants.
WE saw more pig sign beside the road from the truck than I did in the Swamp at Buck Island the other day . As we were headed down a dead in road at near dark I told Gary that pigs would be coming out of a deep 800 acre thick bowl to feed on the oak flats at dark. When we turned around and headed out to make it look like I knew what I was talking about a 100 lb boar was coming across the road doing just that. A cool trip. Here are a few pics.RC

This was from a Sept hunt and Chris calls me "lucky"...

I killed this one there as well. Probably one of the last pigs I killed with a recurve...

You got some really neat woods over there RC!!!! I hope you find a few critters to stick in those woods too.

Alright Robert, you are getting a little too close to home. Please leave a few critters for seed.  :D

Brother John kilt this one up there. We had split up and when I got to our "meeting" place I could`nt find him. I was getting worried then I found him asleep on the trunk of a big tree that had fell over....

found this up there a few years ago. The only grave there in the middle of the woods...

And it was there that I made the best shot of my life....RC

Is that a mouse?

RC, I always enjoy your "walks".  Can't wait to wander through that swampland in person.  Some of it reminds me of the low areas in the Kalamazoo river bottom here in Michigan except we don't have pigs.
