Hi!
I'm struggling with finding wood arrows that will fly well out of my Border hex V recurve 66"/42@31.

I've tried 58# spine arrows with 125 gn up front but they seems to week.
I've tried 70# spine shows weak?
80# spine is all over the place??

Any suggestions?
My drawlength is a thad over 31"

way too stiff, prob a 50lb spine give or take 5 lbs. maybe even lighter depending on your bow performance. shoot bare shafts at 8-12 yards nock left means the arrow is underspined(too weak) nock right is too stiff. you can make an arrow less stiff by adding more weight to the point, and vice versa

good luck, jeremy

i guess you mean the 58" and 70"  were "week" meaning nock left?
i have a similiar poundage bow and i can shoot 45lb spines out of it with the right point, but mainly use 50lb

What wood(s) are you using?  Wood spine depends a little on species/physical weight.  A physically heavier arrow seems to require a stiffer spine.  (Something about paradox recovery).  If you are using different woods as you experiment, you are going to get varying results.

I would normally also recommend bare-shaft testing, but at your draw length, you probably don't have much extra to trim off a full length shaft.  You may still be able to adjust and bare-shaft by changing point weight. I would pick a spine you think will be close and play with adjusting point weight.

Another possible option that has worked for me is to find an aluminum or carbon arrow that works, then convert to approximate wood spine. My goal is to eliminate some of the natural variability of wood.

Is that one of their risers that are cut 5/16 past center?  The Hex5 is a high performance limb and with the radical center shot will need a very heavy spine unless you build out the shelf.

Their "Black Douglas" is cut -3/16" past center. I would think 75/80's cut to 31.5" bop would be in the ball park.

Snag,

Not according to Sid.  He posted recently on another forum they were cut at 5/16".

Thanks for the info    :)
The riser is not the new triple spine carbon bot an older BD original.

I think I'm doing something wrong, because when I shoot 58#spine arrows out of my Firefly longbow 43@30 ( guess I pull it to 45) they fly great with 125 fielpoint with 40 grain adapter??

With my BD I now shoots 82#spine cedars with 125+ 40 adapter??

Thanks Wingnut, I'll make a note on that.

Margly, are those 58# arrows flying good out of that Firefly? Seems light to me if that bow is cut to center and with that much tip weight...?

Hi Snag!
Yes they seems to fly great.
I'll take the bow and arrows down to the club tomorrow, and test them properly.
