I've never tried gasket lacquer for arrows, but I have been intrigued by the quick dry aspect. I am working on a cedar spice rack for my daughter, so I bought some Watco Clear Lacquer to finish it. My thought was I would also give it a try on arrows, but MAN does that stuff stink!

Here is my question. Does gasket lacquer smell that bad too? I'll never use the regular stuff indoors again! Can the gasket lacquer be used indoors or is it about the same stuff as what I have?

It smells a little but not as bad as other lacquer.  I use mine inside.  As far as other kinds of lacquer being used for dipping arrows I'm not for sure if its thick enough.  Gasket lacquer is as thick as honey.  But is the best finish I've found for sealing arrows.

I can't answer whether gasket lacquer and Watco lacquer are similar but I can say I occasionally use gl indoors with no ill effects, including no complaining from the female part of the household.

Thanks guys. I guarantee you wouldn't want to use Watco indoors more than once! It is thicker than varnish, but not as thick as honey. I think it would work on arrows...in the summertime...outdoors!

G.L. definitely has a smell but it is in a plastic tube that has a screw-on lid with a rubber membrane and a tiny hole to push then pull the shafting through. When the shaft comes out coated with G.L. the smell is minimal because it dries so quickly but I still made sure I had good ventillation using it just like the label on the can specifically instructs.
