Greetings All,

How much will dropping 20-30 grns of tip point stiffen a carbon shaft?

Reason I ask is that I'm trying to dial in some carbons for my bow and a CE Heritage 250 is still showing weak at my draw with 100grn insert and 175 up front...I was hoping to keep close to, or over, 600 grns in my completed arrow.

29 3/8 b.o.p. 60#@29" draw

350's & GT 7595's are way too stiff (unless I leave em way longer than I want too) and a 5575 is too light for my taste...

build out your strike plate on your bow instead of dropping your arrow weight if you like it. Just put a piece of tooth pick or something behind it until they fly good. Fred bear used to use this method because he prefered to shoot a certian spine instead of shooting something stiffer.

I may have to go this route...I was hoping to tune the arrow to the bow though vs. the bow to the arrow...

Not much, i have found that carbons react much faster to cutting than adding or reducing point weight

I feel your pain, as someone who was picky about my arrow length and for years endured the agony of cutting carbons that last 1/4 inch too much.  I found out that picking the proper spine and shooting arrows full length (or close to it)really was the most painless route for me.  I don't gap but do see the arrow in my peripheral vision and the extra couple inches has helped my shooting at longer distances when you approach "point on".  I prefer heavier shafts also and the option of adding 100 gr. inserts and 250 gr. points gives you the flexibilty of purposely choosing a stiffer and heavier shaft that you normally would have to shoot without 300-350 grains up front.  Try it, you might like it.

25 grs is roughly the equivalent of 5#'s of spine but it will vary from setup to setup.

I just got done tuning a set of vapor 4000's that were consistently about two to three inches to the right, showing weak.  I cut an inch and re shot and still about two inches right. Dropped from 225 up front to 200, dead on!  Food for thought, lots of ways to skin a cat. I have tubed some arrows but like the 100 gr. brass inserts much better and have achieved tighter groups as well.  good luck!

1 other option might be to try a 50 grain insert instead of 100. also if you just trim 3/8 off the arrow that will make a small but noticeable difference.
