Bought some surewoods, and want to target shoot em too.


What to use for finishthat doesn't heat up when hitting target and soften finish? Not to mention having the target board stick to em.

Thought about using CA, but not sure how that would go.

I like PRO FIN, I got mine from Mr.Bob Burton. Not sure who has it on TG.

I use the Eco Dipper with Gasket Lacquer.... NEVER had a problem and I hunt in all types of weather!

I've been using the Min-wax wipe on polyu lately on Doug fir and haven't had any target burn problems with a Black Hole target. Quick and easy, too.

I have used ProFin for a few years now and am pleased with it for protection against target burn. I think the Massey finish (acetone and super glue on the front part of the shafts) would be a good idea if you are going to do a lot of target shooting.

I used wood floor poly and its pretty tuff stuff, lately I use minwax wipe on poly and have had great results. It doesnt get that thick coating of poly that the bellow layers dont ever totaly dry type seal. Thats what IMHO causes the worst looken target burn/rub lines. The wipe on poly you can do 5+ coats and they look great.

I thought the Massey finish was Epoxy & Acetone?

I use Wipe On Poly also and don't have any target burn issues.

I have used the poly and Tru-Oil, and both of them gave me TB on 3D, blob and fiber board targets. I would like to try the ProFin, and due to Snag's input on the Massey finish, I get the impression that the ProFin is not completely burnproof.

Yes, the Massey finish is made with epoxy, not CA. Snag, you musta been in a hurry, I know you knew that.

I think Snag is on the right track with the Massey finish idea.  His formula is incorrect though!  It is acetone and epoxy.  It should not melt in the cardboard target medium.  Many things that don't hang up in foam, etc., will hang in cardboard.

I,m going to do some massey finish on some shafts in the near future and plan to report results.  I don't shoot into cardboard though.

I used a massey finish on a couple sets and that stuff is the best I have found.

use 2 ton epoxy and mix it 4 parts acetone to one part epoxy. don't mix up more than you will use it don't keep long. DO NOT wipe over it again before it dries trust me. It gets sticky quick. I use two coats usually and never have target burn. This stuff is the hardest finish I have found.

Duco works great on it for fletching as well as fletch tite. I don't use it over cresting the acetone will make it smear. I just crest over it and seal my crest with poly.

My main target is fiberboard, noticed the finish I sprayed on my test arras, didn't do well. It was cheap Krylon clear sumpin...

Please do report on the Massey finish.

Kenny that Massey is the ticket if your looking for a cheap and super tuff arrow finish.

The arrows I have used it on have been shot into everything imaginable and the finish held up great.
