Looking at a small daypack (under 2000 cu in) and trying to decide on the material.

What's your experience with either?

Thanks

Day Dreamer

I had a wool haversack, it was a burr magnet and collected all sorts of debri. I now have a dayone bucksuede pack that is quiet, durable and burr free. If your looking for a more water repellent material than go with the wool.

Wool last forever, bucksuede material last just as long (imo)

wool will pick up some burs but blends in good, the bucksuede looks kinda shiny and hard if you know what i mean. but does a good job of shedding light rain. the wool does too. i would prefer the wool myself.

I love wool clothes, but not wool packs. I sweat easily and don't like my pack making me even warmer than I already am.

I had the same decision to make last yr. I went with the bucksuade for water repellency and doesn't pick up the burrs like wool. No complaints after one yr hunting with it. It gets quieter as it gets broken in.

My Bisongear wool Elk model is hands down my favorite pack. Soft, quiet, and rugged.

I love wool clothing but could never figure out the benefits of a heavy wool pack.  My gear does not need to stay warm, I do like it to stay dry and there are lightweight fabrics that are quiet and water resistent/waterproof.  I guess it also makes a difference if it is a daypack to walk a half mile to a treestand or a daypack to carry up and down the mountains all day long (and potentially haul meat in).

I have packs of both materials, both are great, but at the end of the day I would lean toward buck suede. I use my wool pack more, but due to the style of the pack, not superior quality of the material. I do like wool for being a duller or softer looking material, but buck suede seems a little stronger to me. Either one is an excellent choice in my opinion, which doesn't count for much. A well made pack out of either would be a great investment.

Looks like its 50/50 so far but I prefer wool because its quieter and does not reflect the light.

Have both wool and buck suade. Really like my Bison Gear "Lehmi" in buck suade but my wool pack gets more use because of size. Can't go wrong with either material, especially if you are using high quality packs like Bison Gear.
