Good luck Kenny. Our last rifle season is going on right now until Sun. ( Antlerless ) All unused tags are good for this season.

I know You can Bow hunt now also if You wear orange. I'm going out tomorrow after it cools off a little. I also live in unit 19 and I can take a doe up to Jan 31st with My bow.

Tonite was a bust for deer, too warm I think.

Saw 5 Toms, but 200 yds off.

And a hawk that scared me a bit, came outta nowhere and dropped in the weeds right in front of me!

Took a tree ladder in this afternoon and moved the stand after a little scouting. If NW wind in AM, I hope to have some luck in the mornin!

I have good trails on 4 sides of the stand with farthest at 18-20 yds

Hope your late season goes better than mine did. Had to have my gall bladder taken out over Christmas and our season ended with me in the easy chair. Best wishes!

The story-

I had a wild plan to hunt where some deer had been comin across the gravel road on the north lease . I parked by the neighbors house and walked 150 yds down thru the beanfield, looping around so the deer didn't cross where I walked before the shot op.

As if they read the play book, at 4:40, 3 does come over the far hill and gallop to the road. Confidently, the 1st one crossed and walked right out in front of where I sat in my double Bull chair nestled in some pinoaks, with a cedar cut and propped up in front.

My plan was to shoot before they hit the scentstream. This can bite you if a buck you want is bringing up the rear.

At the shot(which I thought was low and forward) she took off at full throttle, giving a high jump as she went over the hill in the beanfield.

One doe went with her,the other stood across the road, knowing something was wrong here. She finally followed , so I walked out and picked up the arrow that snapped off when she took off.

Not too good on penetration, I thought. I would find later that it hit the legbone on the far side and bounced back partway.

Here is what I saw when I topped the little hill...

The pic above is about where she jumped high on top of the hill, you can see where she staggered.

A nice doe, one of my buddies had just called and told me if I shot one and didn't want it, he didn't have any. Seems he had been doin a lot of duck huntin, wanted to give me some duck meat if I got him a deer. I told him "how bout I just give you the deer?"

The ol test bow should be thouroghly tested now, but I still have an any-deer tag....

Here is where the arrow entered..

And what it took out on the way..
