Well fellas, I have finally got to the point where I feel confident enough to carry my recurve only on a few hunts. I took it a few times early in the year but I had my compound in toe.
Well it looks like thursday is going to be the day. I have my set all ready and the winds are going to lay down to 10 mph. Still gonna be cool in the low 40's. I am stoked and nervous all at the same time. I am shooting a 50 lb bear grizzly and beeman arrows tipped with 270 grain magnus snuffers. I have this bow maxed out. My draw length is a little long for her but I am still shooting in a baseball at 20 yards. I am gonna pull my camera cards wednesday and see just whats coming in to my 2 sets. I am hoping to see some big fat mature doe's. But I will take anything I can get short of a small buck. Wish me luck fellas. Hopefully I will be posting somthing good thursday night!!!!

It's almost nerve racking the first time out without the wheels, but you feel much better now that you've done it dont you!

I just prefer to make my set ups allow for only shots that I'd feel comfortable taking.  Of course you can't do this all the time.

Also, the hunt is about the journey.  I measure success by the effort put into the hunt, not the actual outcome.

Now that's confidence, I like it.

No such thing as luck brother. Luck is the point in time where preparation meets opportunity. Sounds to me like you are gonna make your own luck.

Let us know and don't forget the camera.

The first bowkill I saw in 1975 with a K-Mag and blood 4' high on a tree made my mind up.Killed my first the next year and have never doubted my recurves or longbow could kill just as well as a compound.I never used a compound to speak of had one for a week but quickly went back to my recurve. You should have no problem with your decision.Kip

You will do fine.  I am gonna be looking for pics.  I took my longbow out for the first time over 9 years ago...  Man, don't seems like that long.

Remember to pick THE spot, and the recurve bow and your skill will be all you ever need.

After my first shot in my yard with a longbow, I put the compound down and never touched it again (except to sell it!)  That was 18 years ago, and traditional gear has been my delight ever since!

Best wishes on your hunt. But, if it doesn't come together... it isn't the fault of the equipment!     :saywhat:

That was exactly the point I wanted to make. It's tough to focus when your heart is pounding but start reminding yourself, when you first spot the deer and keep it in your head till the arrow is gone.Easier said than done.

Good luck.It sounds like you are prepared.I like your setup.

I sat on the fence for awhile when I started. I would practice all summer then grab the wheels at crunch time. When I finally said "I'm going to do this" I had two deer down in the first week. Wish I would have switched sooner. Pick out a good back strap recipe and take your camera!

Best of luck, confidence is half the battle!  Where are you hunting in Delaware, lived and hunted there for 40 years.  Go gettem.

The day will come when you kill a deer and say, "Wow! I could never had made THAT shot with a compound!"

The ability to get off a shot more quickly, and at unexpected angles or placement can put a lot of meat in the freezer.  Got get 'em!

Staight_arrow, I grew up in Sussex county. I live in Lewes.  I have private farms in millsboro and Georgetown.  I also bow hunt alot of state land. I get within bow range of alot of deer every year. I have killed 6 this year with my bow and passed 3 times that many. Getting close to deer isn't my concern. Its a me that I worry about sometimes.

Just do it buddy! I still switch back and forth between stick and wheels, but there is nothing like getting one with the stick! I know you have the deer down there and know how to get on them. Have confidence and just go for it.
