I am just starting trad archery.  I have a 64" 55# @ 28" saxon longbow that is in almost like new shape.  I don't feel it is the bow I want to learn with(high draw weight, and I really want a takedown recurve).  I was wondering if anyone could give me a ballpark of what it is worth?  #'s on it are DR1193CR.  Sounds like DR= deflex, reflex   1193= november 1993  and CR is the bowyer?  I can post pics if necessary. If memory serves, Mr. Gordon Morey possibly could have made your bow? Might check with "longbowleo" here to see what he thinks? Leo has a huge selection of quality longbows mostly heavier you might be interested in also. Easy one of the best folks around IMHO. Don't think Saxon ever got deserved credit for their stuff. Maybe too many changes inhouse? They made some good bows though especially Gordon's bows.

Randy made that bow if its what I'm thinking of.  does it say american,selkirk,mongoose, on it? if its what I'm thinking of I'd say used its worth 200-250 But its a awesome bow I've owned 3 of them.  

you may be able to trade it towards a recurve but not a t/d unless its a cheaper samick or something like that.    if your not doing alot of traveling right now go with a 1-piece recurve for now,,, every one of my T/D recurves stays together all year.. the 1 thing I like with a T/D is I can use a GN quick release quiver and its easier to take off and also if I ever go to shoots on the bike.

Thats a great bow !!!! It is probably worth 250 , but try and shoot it , its very forgiving and stable

I agree. My first longbow was a Saxon American and I wish I still had it. Like a lot of folks, I traded mine for something that I thought was better but now that I've gone down that path several times, in my opinion if you like longbows, that is one of the best you can buy for the money you will spend.

The "American Series" are great bows and were made in both the Longbow and Recurve models. Your bows SN (DR1193CR) is defined as; DR meaning Deflex/Reflex (just as you thought), 1193 is the consecutive serial number used for both recurves and longbows so your bow was the 1,193 bow made, either longbow or recurve in the "American Series" it is not the month/year of manufacture. Both the "American Series" longbows and recurves received the next sequential number as they were built. Just an armchair guess your bow was probably built around 1995-1996. The "CR" is for the bow laminator and the bow finisher/builder so for your bow the "C" is for Charlie Wheeler who did the laminations and the "R" is for Randy Dehnel who was the final bowyer/builder and Randy is the owner of "Saxon Archery" Randy is a great bowyer and his bows are made to hunt. After a lot of thought and help from a few of you guys I have decided to keep the saxon.  I'm still going to purchase and ILF takedown recurve with light limbs to begin with.  Can't wait to get it.  Thanks.

good move because I think for what you Might of got in a trade would of been worth and maybe shot less than that longbow.   your longbow is a traditional styled longbow so its nott he fastest and its not the slowest but it can be very consistant.  I loved all 3 of my saxons..

I've got a 50# American that I bought from John Nail some years back. I'll never sell mine, except with one caveat. I did sell it back to John last year for $100 with the stipulation that he could only sell it to me and for $100. Basically he rented it for a few months at no cost. It's back on my rack. We call it "Hundred Dollar Bill"
Great bows. I especially love the way Randy can make those deep cored , narrow limbs. Quite lovely.

Boy, you guys are bringing back some memories; I was taught to build by Randy back in the day when he was at Medical Lake, WA.  Was sad to see him go; but a guys gotta do..........If anyone is in touch with him have him (Randy) PM me.  Now that would be great!!
