Hey all,

One of the bows that has got my interest lately is the Samick Stingray style.  I have heard a lot about the Stingray and there are lots of owners that really love them and say they shoot great.  I have also read lots of comments about Samick quality and sometimes it is hit or miss.  Don't know if it is true or it pertains to this Samick or not.  They very well could be a fine bow.

For those that aren't familiar with the Stingray, here is a link to familiarize you.

OK, what I would like to know is what other bowyers make this style of bow?  I think Black Widow has one similar to it.

I like the looks of that forward type of grip.  Looks like it would be a comfortable and capable shooter.

Not taking anything away from the Samick, but if someone wanted a bow like this one, but of better workmanship and quality, where would you go?

PICS would be great too...if you have them.
Thanks for the time.

Fact is the Samick Stingray is a copy of the Black Widow TF, not the other way around. If you want quality, the  Black Widow is far and away a better choice than the Samick.

Hey,

I misspoke.  Didn't mean to mislead anyone.

The Widow TF isn't mentioned very often and I haven't seen any pics of them except in the BW catalog.  Maybe I wasn't paying good enough attention.

Anyone with pics or info?

Any others that make this style?

Thanks

RER makes a similar bow as well. Didn't mean to bite but I have a sore spot for copy bows. While copying may seem like flattery to some, it completely diminishes the efforts in creating the original.

No links to other message boards. Samick has done a fine job of copying or attempting to copy other bowyers work.

Bob Sarrels at Sarrellsarchery makes one that looks just like that.

The Samick might look like a copy from a distance. I had the oportunity to lay a Stingray and a Widdow on top of each other, and they are not the same. Similar yes, but definately diferent in every way.

Actually I think both are copies of the old Wing Chaparel. (sp)

Pete?? Curious how they compare in performance, the Samick and the Widow.

RER aroyo and great plain Kiowa are very good bows for the price with this design.
La critique est aisée mais l'art est difficile.

I have no Idea on the performance diferences, I have not chronographed either one.

I used to have one of the older Widows that looked like the Stingray. It was made in 1960 and wasn't a very good shooting bow.

I've had a dozen or so recurves in the last several years, ranging from a 1972 Bear Grizzly to a 2011 ILF. My Stingray is still my favorite and one I'll never get rid of. It runs around 160 fps with a 600 grain arrow 48# at 29" if that's any help.
