Thinking on trying a public land hunt in south east ohio next year . Sarted to look on the DNR web site . One of the things i would would  be a camp ground opened year round .Any info would be helpful . Thanks David Atkinson  :help:

I would look into finding a private campground, most of the campgrounds on state land are primative to say the least.  If I were to pick one area to focus my hunt around would be the Leesville Lake area south to Egypt Valley. Thousands of acres on numerous public lands with plenty of big bucks.  Anywhere in the vicenity of Carrol, Belmont or Jefferson Counties are great hunting  do not overlook the small areas of public ground, I saw a monster at Atwood Lake this year and there are plenty of public area's that are not on the DNR website.  If you are close enough I could show you around to some area's this March when i am out shed hunting I usually go every weekend from the end of Feb through Turkey season.

Thanks Steve i'll take a look at that area .Private campground all the way if i get away sleepin in a bed they only way for me .I find the ground has gotten a lot harder the older i get. I'm about 8 to 9 hours away thats a great offer i may just take a ride out their .  Thanks again David

The campgrounds at salt fork are open year round. Guys were camping there in muzzle loader season last year.

The reason I would not look at Salt fork is that it has an early muzzleloader season in October and it gets pounded throughout the season because of how close it is to columbus and cleveland.  I have hunted there a few times and although there is quite a few deer it seems to me that the deer are more skittish.

There is a group of Trad Gangers that get together every year during deer season and hunt public lands in the AEP area or Ohio Power lands in southern Ohio. If you search the trad hunts here on Trad Gang it should give you info on the campground area and when they all meet up and hunt. They have had there hunt this year already. I think the campgrounds they stay at might be open all year long. They also hold a group squirrel hunt in the same area also.

AEP and Egypt valley are both good areas with lots of acerage. Stay away from salt fork.

What's the matter Dave, locals here in PA got you frustrated!   :knothead:  I can't blame you.

Steve in Canton

I would even stay away from AEP more and more hunters are there every year, I was there the weekend between gun seasons and the campgrounds were busy.

David Atkinson

Tim just runnin out of places to hunt have to take a number behind the house now.

Craig

Dave, tell the truth, You have been looking at tooooo many photos of big Ohio bucks. (LOL)
