Thinking about making my own strings. what dvd should I get, doin' the twist,or how to build a great bow string?

JRY309

I believe that there is Doin the Twist II,a newer DVD.I've seen Doin the Twist the first one, great DVD!

LBR

"How To Build a Great Bowstring" is the second one.  We thought about calling it "Doin' the Twist II", but decided to go with a name that was more to the point.

They both contain some of the same information, but they both also have information that you won't get from the other.

DTT includes instructions on a homemade endless jig, tying a bowyer's knot, plans for a stretching jig, and two slightly different techniques for twisting up flemish strings.

BGB has better camera work, especially better close-ups, and goes into more detail about endless strings.

Both cover 2 and 3 bundle flemish strings, endless strings, serving, plans for making a flemish string board, installing silencers, etc.

The first one we did (going on 7 years ago) was Joe Stark, formerly of Lone Wolf Traditional Archery (retired now) and myself.  The new one features Rod Jenkins and me, and was filmed and produced by Traditional Vision Quest (Denny Sturgis Jr. and Darryl Quidort).

I think you can learn to make a string from either one, but if I had to choose I'd go with "How to Build a Great Bowstring" due to the camera work being much better, and I think it's easier to watch.  It also has a "blooper" segment that will make you grin.

Doing the Twist #1 is what I have.  Good Video!

I happen to have both and agree with Chad.
I learned with DTT and learned more with the second one.

Go to sponsers list Rocky Moutain Specialty Gear, tutorials. Makes a good string.

Interesting--I've never seen that technique before.

The only thing I'd disagree with is using 7 strands of white and 8 strands of black--that will usually result in the same kind of problem described earlier in this thread, because the white strand is going to be a tad smaller.  The opposite, 8 white and 7 black, would work better.  Normally I would use the same number of strands in each bundle.

I liked the feather splicing tutorial--had a friend show me how to do that some time ago, but I needed a refresher.

Chad

Overspined

I just printed instructions online about making my own board and started making them from the instructions without a problem

I used DTT #1 and had great luck with it i can't wait to the next volume, when i asked at 3 rivers which one they recommend they said hands down "Doin The Twist"
