How many of you have bow hunted in red and black wool and been successeful? Any pics of your shirt or coat in the woods? I'm torn between the red and black or green and black Woolrich shirt. Thank's George

Ken Taylor

That's mostly what we hunted with in the old days, and I don't think that there would be much difference between one or the other to a deer... but I would go green and black just for the look and to be a little less obvious to people (unless you want to be more visible).

That green and black is nice. I should get one too!
May your next adventure lighten your heart, test your spirit, and nourish your soul.

I've used both.  The deer can't tell the difference.  They both tend toward black in low light conditions.  Sometimes that's an advantage, when backed into an evergreen, for example.  Sometimes it's not, when skylined on a ridge or in a tree, for example.

Swanndri from New Zealand. This one is my lucky hunting jacket ... was my Dad's which h bought in the 1970's and still going strong .

Very cool Ben!!
I'd like to find one in hunter orange checkered like that for my public land forays.
Have a nice day!

I've been successful while wearing both. I prefer red/black because it seems more "Old Timey" to me.

Great pics Ben!

I have used both, the green and black I use  now because of how it blends in my area....  :archer:

I hunt in a red and black 1950's coat for late season black powder.  The coat is big in the arm and hits my string while bow hunting.  I do hunt with a traditional patch and ball rifle the same way I do with my bow.  Mainly on the ground and everything under 30 yards.  I have never had trouble getting busted.  I like the red in late season cause other gun hunters may be around.  They can pick out the red!

My early season "outfit" consists of my red/black Filson wool vest over my rust/brown buffalo plaid Woolrich shirt.I have deer look right through me. These are quality wool garments that will last my lifetime.

I use red and black on occasion and believe it is great for deer hunting. I also use it for small game hunting where I want other hunters to see me.

If you are hunting color blind animals....here's how they see it....

Red and black just feels right to me. Like cigars, peanut butter cups and beer. I guess it was how I was raised.

I own an older (bought in the 70s) Woolrich Red/Black coat and a Buffalo shirt! I wish I had a Green and Black we wore Red/Black as it was more visible than the Green during gun season! I wear my Buffalo shirt some when archery hunting mainly use the heavy coat when muzzleloading! Lovem both! Whats nice is they are both USA made!

I've killed 2 deer wearing the red and black. I had deer on me tight and like was said earlier they looked right thru me. I was pretty amazed. It seems the red and black is more abundant if your looking to buy used.

Red and black or green and black. Wont matter as long as you put asat or predator over the top of it. Ok . flame on, but the wider patterns on asat and predator work the same way as green and black squares. They are just a little wider and more open. You wont black out to much at distance with green and black but predator is a little better. Deer dont see predator or asat and i have had people walk by a few feet away and not know i was there. If i could not get asat and predator i would wear green and black. At least in the forest. ymmv.

Terry Lightle

I hunt in black and red quite often and have killed deer at real close yardage on ground and in tree stands
