Bowhunting with my Granddad in my early teens convinced me I wanted to use traditional bows early on. He's been gone for 20 years this year and me my brother both will miss him as long as we're here.

The bow:

I believe it is a 61 Kodiak he bought new at the local hardware store. I got dialed in with it and and loaded the Eagles Flight quiver with razor sharp Bear SS Razorheads. (My green ones are in my Silvertip quiver)

I bought a new Windwalker stand in November and decided to use it in the late season to get familiar with it. After this morning I really like it. Easy to set up and much more comfortable than I would have believed a small light stand could be!

The climbing sticks are at a good location on our land where a nice buck is still working the area.

I have wanted to do this for a couple of years and decided to finally hunt it this late season. This was day one in a nearly a month left of the  season. I don't know how it will turn out but the old Bear felt right this morning!

Good luck to ya Bishop. Looks like a nice set up all around--bow and stand!!

Gotta believe he's smiling right now. What a fine, classic bow. Good luck and keep us posted.

I have to be careful with it. I was admiring it while sitting on the stand it really doesn't have scratch on it. He could baby anything and I ding everything.

Thanks guys.

Marc,

Hard to tell by the picture but the 61 will have green glass on the limbs and the 62 gray. Either way it's a 50 year old clasic.

Good luck!

They are green. Thanks for the tip Jack!
I still have a few of the first set of arrows he bought with it but I'm not using them. One still has traces of blood and deer hair on it    ;)

I have removed one of the old Razorheads and made kills with it out of other bows.

Best of wishes in puting that keepsake bow to good use.

That is a classic bow no matter what, but to have it passed down from your grandfather and be able to hunt with it - bowhunting doesn't get any cooler than that!!  Enjoy, you are a lucky man!

Lots of people hunting with 50 year old bows but I bet few belonged to their fathers or grandfathers. Something very special!
