Mike, I appreciate the warnings and take them to heart.  I'm an eagle scout and not unfamiliar with the risks of wilderness travel, especially in a canoe in the fall.  I respect and fear mother nature!

What are the rules about campfires in the region?  I enjoy a small friendship fire, and prefer cooking over one when camping, but if fire dangers or other restrictions are in effect, I'll grudgingly pack along a campstove.

Me and my sons will be doing a three day canoe trip from Long Lake to Tupper Lake. Should be fun. My first trip up.

Get your paddling arms ready Terry.  Long lake is LOOOOOONNNNNNGGGG.

bunyan,

You should have no problems with having a fire.  NYS law requires that you only burn dead and down though,  not the best for fires.

Thanks Keith! Did I mention I'm taking the two boys. As you recall they are pretty big boys. I was thinking a reclining lawn chair in the middle of the canoe would be about right! They should be able to keep up a good trolling speed!

Huntrdfk@Work

With the two of them along Terry you shouldn't have to do a thing except catch the fish......

Wow! My son and I just got back from our canoe trip. What a great thing to do with kids on summer vacation. Not physicallly relaxing as it is a lot of work living outdoors and carrying gear across portages, but what it does for your mental attitude can't be beat! Good luck with your trip and let us know how it pans out. BTW, we saw a spikey!

VTer, I'm glad to hear your canoe trip was a success!  Its all in the research and planning stages for next season, but I'm sure I'll be posting more as the time approaches.  If things work out I maybe able to sneak up for a summertime scouting/orientation trip, although next summer is already starting to get booked up!

Wow, Andy, that trip is going to be sweet!
