Is this worth the money, is it accurate?  I am thinking of getting one for Christmas.

Bob.  I have never used the ACE spine master, but went a step further and got the spine-o-matic and could not be happier with it.  It is the most accurate spine tester I have ever use other than a dial indicator type that Easton Makes,,,,and way way more expensive.

I'm with Stringstretcher, the Spine-O-Matic is has proven to be an excellent investment.

Yes on both accounts. I've been using one for several years.

I forget which one it was, but I had the wall-mounted spine tester from Ace. It did fine with most spines in the medium range: 40 to 70lbs. But it got inaccurate when you got into the higher weights - 85 to 105lbs.  For most people, this isn't an issue, but for me it was.  I made my own dial indicator and that is all I use now.

Works great, no reason to spend more money, the only issue I have had is the little rubber washers on the brass knob wear out and you need more after a while. Ace sent me some for free after I called, how can you beat that!
