I got this Wing Archery Chaparral. Its 56# if I'm reading correctly through the paint. I think there is a nice bow under all the thick paint.

I took it outside in the dark and shot it few times. really seems to spit an arrow and draws extremely smooth, no hint of stacking anywhere. The grip feels awesome in my hand. Seems to have a pretty bad vibration in the upper limb after a shot. I haven't adjusted the brace height yet, so that may help.

I'm sure there is a bunch of guys here that have one of these bows or have shot them. What brace height did the bow like for a starter point?

How could someone actually spray paint a bow like that. It always amazes me. Make sure you post some after picts for us Jeff.

looks like a great "project" bow. With a forward handle like that I think I'd start bracing at around 8". Just MHO.

it baffles me too. But some people probably don't know what they have in their hands. obviously, since I got it in a trade for 2 sirloin steaks!

I hope that person you traded for it knows how to hunt, if the economy hits the sh-ter any worse than it is now you'll be glad for the trade.

reckon when this bow was made? Its says something about Head Ski under the Wing symbol. Bob Lee had something to do with these bows didn't he?

Yep, it just makes me cringe when I see a bow painted like that.  It's like putting a new paint job on a Corvette with a brush.

boy I set the brace height at 8" yesterday evening and man does this little bow shoot great. Its really spits an arrow. I just might take it out on a hunt this weekend if I can shoot it a little more this week.

Doesn't shoot nearly as hard as my Howatt hunter but I'm definitely pleased to have come across this one.

With the leaf stencil that's on there that may have been a factory camo job......as far as painting a bow...guys gave me a hard time when I painted my Black Widow...lol! What ever work for you! That is a great find enjoy!!  

Back in the late 60's everyone painted their bows.  That's the first thing we did when purchasing a new one.  That camo pattern on the Wing bow looks very similar to what I used to do.  I still have an old Red Wing Pro with my original paint on it.  My son (JJB) removed the paint, lowered the weight, and refinished my old 1971 Red Wing Hunter last winter for me.  That is now my turkey bow.  I wouldn't think of painting a bow now, but forty years ago, things were different.

Bernie B. speaks the truth; we all trashed our bows with spray paint, nasty camouflage tape, or cottom limb covers that weighed a ton when they got wet. What was I thinking?!

if I hadn't been able to see what kind of bow it was from the get go and the hint of that pretty wood in the riser I would just leave the paint alone!

All my hunting bows are painted.  First thing I do.  Re stencil.  Lay a leaf down on the bow and spray over it.  Voila !
