Doug Fir is good but I've had some raw shafts that were a bit on the brittle side.  Sitka is light and makes a dandy 3D arrow.  Chundoo is a good tough heavier arrow, and of course Ash is outstanding if tough and heavy is what you want.  But all things considered, in the end it's still darned hard to beat PO Cedar.

I think the best wood is the one that gets you where you want to be for spine and weight.
