This man, who I didn't know, has made a monumental and profound impact on me. Because of his posting and the avalanche of response, I have been forced to examine myself and take assessment.
This "stranger" in what little time he has left in this life, and without even knowing it, has given me a gift.
I have a Savior who laid down his life for me and shown me his grace and mercy.
I just gained a new "friend" , who I'll never meet, who because of how he touched others lives reminded me of the impact I could have in this life.
Thank you DCM.
Grace to you and your family.

This is crushing news.  David is a gift to the bow building community, the trad community and the community at large.  A very wise man, he is a gifted teacher.  His correspondences with me always sprinkled with Twainian like quotes.  Simple, yet profound stuff, often with a meaning I didn't fully comprehend until sometime later.

Nobody had a better eye for tiller.  I remember an ELB he did in hickory.  One of the most stunning selfbows I've ever seen.  And who can forget the pinky draw   :)

I remember wanting to try a Shrew bow one time before I decided to buy one.  Less than a week later David's showed up in the mail. What a generous guy.

Thanks for posting this news, Pat, sad indeed though it is.  Eric, thank you for the updates.

My heart is along the same lines as Yukon Chuck.  I've never met David and I know my life is poorer now for that.  I've copied his post from another forum that introduced me to David and his situation.  I hope that it is not outside the rules here but to read what this man has written in the last days of life.....The effect has no words to describe.  Awestruck? Dumbfounded? Flabbergasted?  no, I think maybe humbled. Humbled by the strength, charity, wisdom and kindness he has shown so many.  I often think that there's not much of the human race worth a spit.  I was wrong in that.  Here's the post:

"I'm finally on my death bed, evidently pushing what is natural by fair measure. The drill here is you get good pain killers and drugs (to keep me crawling out my skin w/ anxiety) until you succum to dehydration. Takes 3 to 5 days. So, here I sit waiting for the wreaper.
I love all of you. Mostly because we've become familiar over the net, friends, shared some of our lives' intimacies but also because "no man is an island..." Another, the other poem I know is named "anyone lived in a little how down: by e e cummings, even if you don't "get" poetry.

There may be other posts from me, if not from my wife so you'll know when the end has come. Fear of dying I have little anxiety, to not breath I have great anxiety which I will combat with drugs. I will remain awake if I can.

David

I know I've left enemies, but not by spite or malice. All of you please accept my apology, even if from my death bed."

God's speed, grace and blessing David

"With up there floating so many bells down.."

One of the few that I remember from school. Another, "He clasps the crag with crooked hands..."

Such a soul, a fine mind. I will miss you, along with many others. Thank you for being.

Killdeer
Long, long afterward, in an oak I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end, I found again in the heart of a friend.

My best friend lost his battle last year.   My prayers to his family and friends,  I understand your loss.

Lost Tribe Pres.

Talked to David's wife Donna today and she said that David had a good night. He still has His sense of humor. David and His family have been faithful members of Lost Tribe Traditional Archers of TN for many years and as MJ Serrat said above they have been main stays of our club. David is a true traditional archer in every sense of the word. A more giving person you will not meet. He loved his selfbows and helping others make one gave him great joy. Our prayers are with him and his family.
