I'd start by going to a shorter bow. What are you hunting?

Some areas lend themselves to hunting from the ground with a bow and some don't. I like to hunt from the ground if there is plenty of cover, but yet plenty of trails where you can walk without alerting everything in the woods.

Jake, your property where you and your dad are I would suggest building a ground blind and sit in it on a hunting stool.  Just build it out of some down trees and limbs.  I would start practicing shooting sitting on the stool.  This is what I used to do with my longer longbows and I still hunt this way with my short bows.

Oh and I would not look to much into the shorter bow thing.  This being you first season with your longbow shoot the bow you have been shooting.  You shoot that bow very well!!  I would not recommend you shooting anything but that bow.

Don't be afraid of short bows. Try them before you dismiss them.
There are several short bow reviews on my site to look at   www.peteward.com   in the trad review section. I recently finished up the sheepeater review and it will definately be a hunting bow along with the Kempf little grizzly. Both are 50" AMO bows.
A short bow will not be near the handicap a longer bow is in thick stuff or blinds. At normal hunting distances a short bow is not a handicap at all.

I would never give up a bow I shot well for something that was "convenient" in the brush.

It's MHO that the whole "brush bow" thing is a bunch of crap. Learn to use what you have in all situations and you'll be ahead of the game in the long run.

After reading Pete Ward's review on short bows,The Stalker by Rodney Wright.  I gave it a try.....I love it..    I can shoot it while sittin' on the ground without even canting the bow.  It shoots as good as anything I've shot. BUT it isn't for the long draw guys.  28" and that's it, works for me..  :archer:

Here is a couple nice pics of Jake and his longbow.
