Up until now, I've been a one bow kinda guy. Lately, I'm getting the itch to own several bows...mostly longbows.

I love all the Toelke's I've shot and will always have one, but I'm also considering a few others. I'm intrigued by the Centaur bows I've seen. They seem similar.  

Anyone advice from someone who's shot both???

I recently acquired a Centaur Double Carbon.

It is a really fast, stable and extremely lightweight bow.

It is a nice bow, maybe a little high tech for my taste but really a fine shooter.

I have shot and owned both. In fact I live exactly between the two bowyers.
Jim and Dan both make great bows. Their attention to detail and craftsmanship is exquisite.
Centaur probably has a slight edge in the speed department but Toelkes can hold their own.
I really think you couldn't go wrong with either bow or bowyer.
You need to try both and see which fits you best.
You'll be impressed with each of them.

I spoke with Dan yesturday, he has a new 58-60" form that is a bit faster then his previous shorter (58-60) Whip.

All that said, its really a toss up and as stated above.... you should shoot both then decide.

I really enjoy my Whip (and the other Toelkes I've shot).

Never shot a Whip, but I love my Centaur!

Both are GOOD!  You can get either one, or both  

I've shot both, and I would give a slight nod to the Whip for smoothness and quietness.  It's not quiet as fast as the Centaur, but if we wanted/needed extreme speed we'd shoot wheelie bows. lol

You can also get the Whip in a 2 piece if that strikes your fancy, Centaur will not build a 2 piece that I know of.

Having said that, the Centaur is still a VERY good bow and you can not go wrong with the Centaur.  May even hold it's value a little more.  The finger grooves on the Centaur can be a problem if reselling though.  They are sometimes very specific to the shooter.  Just my 2 cents.

I prefer the Toelke adn you get them way faster. usually withing 4-5 weeks!

I live a few miles south of Jim. Nicer guy and nice bows. @ guys I know only shoot his bows.
With that said I live a couple hours from Dan. His is a good friend and it is all I shoot. He makes the black glass Whip I sell in my shop called the Plenty Coups Special. I had him make me one with an ebony riser that I call the "Midnight Assassin". It is from his new form. Same weight as my clear glass Whip which is 3 years old. The new form does add some extra speed and IMO it is even smoother to draw if that is at all possible! Love it! You owe it to yourself to try one made on the new form!

Honestly I don't require anymore speed out of the bows I own from Dan, but in the mail as I type is a 62" T/D Whip that has what he calls the HS(high speed)limbs.  These limbs are described as having more reflex in the tips than the previous milder R/D Whip limbs.  So on that end, I am liking the fact that Dan is acquiring more speed through design rather than technology.  Both bowyers are spot-on for craftmanship, detail and quality.  Both bows are in the same extreme low mass category IMO. Personally I'm leaning toward the heavier mass of the Lynx for 3D and winter indoor shooting, as I just seem to shoot more consistently with the extra mass.  However, getting to altitude or busting through alders, Whips fill a very practical niche up here.

Lamey, Dan says this was the first 62" Whip out of his shop with the HS limbs.

Mine is 60" as all my other Whips I have or owned.

I've got a 64" Whip    , 51 # @28",about a year old now. May not be the fastest but probably the smoothest/quitest!! I shoot it the best of my many bows.

I've got a new one in production!   60" Lynx with Dan's new HS limbs!    And some real nice woods as you will see down the road

Centaur makes a fantastic 2 piece takedown with a connexion hinge that performs flawlessly and is rock solid.
Mine is a 2 piece carbon backed bow covered in prarie rattler. 62 inches and 60#s at 29 inches.
I was torn between both bows and think either are first class functional works of art.

Might want to check with Jim on that. He told me less than two months ago he was not building the two piece any more.
