I think 2 1/2 years old is the perfect eating size.
Old enough to taste like DEER, lots of meat, and young enough to be tender. Perfect hit on him as well.

Thanks for all the comments guys. For everyone in upper New England you know what a tough time we've had this year. With our bad winter last year and little in the way of acorns, its been tough hunting. This was only the 2nd deer I've seen all year from my stands. Very few doe pictures on my trail cams too. When we got the snow, i did some walkabouts too verify my lack of deer sightings and confirmed thru very little deer tracks that our herd took a beating last winter. I feel very fortunate that someone was looking out for me on this guy.
