I really like a good deflex/reflex bow. Seems to be the smoothest I have shot. The one I'm shooting now is 58" and smooth as butter at 55#. I would tend to lean toward the general consensus here and say longer is better but it also has alot to do with a well designed bow.

Hope you find what your looking for.

I have shot heaps ... and there are numerous good options . As has been suggested elsewhere , get to a couple of trad events if possible and shoot as many as possible .
Personally , the Black Widow longbows , Sky Longhorns , Tomahawks are all great shooters . I am a long fulcrum kinda guy and even at my 27" draw prefer longer bows [ 64" min ] and preferably 66" .. smooth and easy to draw .

Look forward to seeing what you end up with .

Bama Bows are pretty darn smooth.....just got one and it impresses the heck out of me.  Shoot ACSs too....and the Bama makes me say HMMM!? in regards to performance and the fact that I could by 2 for the price of 1 ACS.   And you cant beat a lifetime warranty either on the Bama!

Another vote for Cari-Bow,kinda hard to buy a bad bow these days with so many quality bowyers building

I think carbon makes bows smooth, I have 3 carbon bows ACS 64" is the smoothest and fastest.

Can't go wrong with a.BW, but maybe try a Lost Creek.

My 3pcs 54# Tree Stik is mighty smooth compared to all my other longbows of similar weight, and those would be ....

Centaur, ASC, Black Widow, Berry, Kanati, Big Jim Buff, Moab

My 56" 49# Big Jim Thunder Child is a bit lighter but very smooth and fun to shoot too. Great little bow

Really like the way Allen Boice's Contender shoots. The one I have has yew core. Dan Toelke's Whips are great shooters also.

Man - the tribe is there for you !  :notworthy:

Thank you all for your kind replys - I have received lots of good hints - I chek all the suggestions and try to create a opinion - I think now, that the bow should be long (66") and not too heavy (around45#) I can hunt only small game here in Finland , so there is no reason to stress these old joints too much...

I have a Centaur double carbon. It is 60", 45# @28". I am drawing 31" and it is very smooth. It seems pretty fast too even shooting it with 11 gpi. arrows.

Kabekona River sold by Greg at G&M archery in MN are one of the smoothest bows i've shot. Made by Tim at Kota Bows for Greg. Very quick also.

St. Joe River is the best I've shot

I shot an Acadian Woods Cajun Hunter when I went to pick up my Tree Stick and all  I could say was WOW!!!  Tim's Cajun Hunter will be the next bow in my stable next year!!  I shot a 66" bow and with the reverse forward grip there was virtually no hand shock to speak of!!  Check them out!!

I m a recurve shooter but won a Stalker Tracker a while back. It is only 58" but is every bit as smooth and fast as my recurves. I suspect in a longer model it would be even smoother...and it is gorgeous.
The best things in life....aren't things!

One thing to consider with a shoulder wear situation is range of motion and if there are any particular motions that are harmful or painful.  I have seen a variety of shoulder problems that restrict draw motion in certain styles and not so much in other styles. Another case where a fellow was forced to go to a swing draw with a low wrist trad bow because he could no longer draw his compound. I would experiment with something much lighter to see if there is a drawing motion, draw length and anchor that feels better for the shoulder.

I'm a big fan of my 64" Toelke Whip. It's silky smooth and quiet.
