just got in from the ball game to find my new woodsman elites that are suppose to be hunting sharp right out of the pack. seems i got old pack. saids right on the pack that they have to be sharpened. kinda sux for tomorrows hunt.

They are really easy to sharpen. Put them on a stone and you'll be ready to go

I just got mine in last week and they were in fact shaving sharp. It's not hard a steel, though, and pretty easy to sharpen. I polished mine anyway on an ultra-fine ceramic stone.

We (KME Sharpeners) started sharpening all the Woodsman Elites late last year for 3 Rivers and we shave test every blade before sending them out. Because they're carbon steel we oil them up before packaging but when the oil drys it can kind of "encase" the sharp edge. All that should be needed to bring them right back to shaving is a quick stropping on a piece of plain brown corrugated cardboard. (like a good sized flap off a cardboard box). Just pull the heads backwards along the cardboard about 15 passes per side to remove the oil residue and expose the sharp edges. The blister card still says to sharpen them because the packaging hasn't been updated yet. Hope this helps and I'd apreciate it if everyone could help get this info out there. Thanks,

How do you sharpen them?

on the kme jig for 2 blade heads can you sharpen 2 blade with bleeders? like zwickey.

I have a KME broadhead and a knife sharpener and to my knowledge (which is limited) I don't think the KME is needed to sharpen them. I am pretty sure Ron is simply using flat stones and cardboard but I may be off base here.

Well I just got a pack and they are not shaving sharp. The edges were not evenly ground particularly at the tail of the blade. Several blades have waves in the bevel. A couple blades were not even beveled all the way to the tail of the head. It took a good bit of metal removal to get a consistent bur on all edges. Now they are sharp. Good thing I got as set of Ron's aluminum oxide stones with my order. That along with Ron's instructions got it done. No way Ron worked on these heads.

What weight/style did you get? I'm not sure how many packs 3 Rivers keeps in stock. We've done a whole lot of heads in the last year or so but it could be you got some "pre-KME" heads. I gotta say, doesn't sound like anything we sharpened. Even though these are 3 Rivers heads we take great care in making sure that every blade is up to our standards before they go out. Thanks,

sounds like mine. they were the 200 gr. screw-in. the were not flat or sharp. marked the blade with a sharpy and had to use a file a good bit to get ful contact. only differance in these and the ones that i bought serveral years ago is that it seems that the steel is a lot harder. doesn't seem like anythink that you guys at KME have looked at. have heard nothing but good thinks about KME. thats why i bought them.
