I made this deer Grunt call many years ago. All you do is rub the big end edge of tine on a angle across the grooves on hollowed antler. It makes a "clicky" grunt sound. It doesn't work all the time (like all calls) but when it does..they come running ! Try making one..Jeff

If you make one..just put 4 grooves in hollowed antler part. Its the right amount of sound !

That is cool. That low clicking sound is what I hear from deer most often. Even during May Ive heard bucks do that. Ill be making one for sure. Thanks.

That is so cool! Thanks for showing it. I have an old antler beside me now and I've already marked where to cut. I love making game calls. It"s so much more satisfying to hunt with gear that you built yourself.

Jeff,does the center hole have to be a certain diameter to produce the right sound?

I have made a few in different sizes... They all had a little different sound.. Try making one close to size in pic...I bet it will be fine !

I never heard two deer sound alike so I wouldn't think it mattered on the size but I have a few antlers begging me to make a call like that...I read many years ago about using a hair comb and taking your thumb down the teeth and it makes a small clicking sound like a grunt...Heck many of you had probally had dropped your reed out of the stand sometime in your hunting life and never knew you had a grunt comb in your back pocket!    Keefer's <><

So with your picture in mind, I went to my shop and made this copy. Now back at the computer I see all the differences. Do you think it will work anyway?

I intentionally left the striker long; thought maybe it could double for rattling a bit too.
