Boone the Hunter

I had a great hunt yesterday. There were heavy winds blowing so me and a buddy of mine decided to go stalk through a thick 20 acre bedding area on our favorite property we hunt, its made up of real thick brush mixed with tall yellow grass. It would be un- huntible if not for little fingers of waist high grass that run all through it  allowing a way to navigate it standing upright. My buddy jumped a six point and larger shooter buck as we first came into the area without any shot opportunities. The plan was to work through about 60 yards apart with the wind in our face. About halfway through I paused to look around, hand on my string ready and a doe stepped into my finger about 20 yards up. I drew back and her eyes locked on me about the time I hit my anchor but it was to late. I released and buried the arrow up to the fletch in front of her shoulder angling right into the goodies, she crashed into the brush and to my amazement only went 25 yards before piling up. I was shooting my buffalo bow with an old bear razorhead w/bleeder and wow what a mess that made. I shot her over a quarter mile from my truck so my friend Tom and I tied her up on a pole and carried her back on our shoulders. Was an awesome hunt that I won't soon forget.

Excellent !!

That is a low percentage shot though, just a tad farther back and you'd have hit the shoulder blade/bone and the arrow likely would have stopped cold... Any quartering on shot is generally best passed up. Just my opinion-----.

Congrats on your success !

Good going!!
One time i let a friend sit in one of my ladder stands, right at last light a big buck came right to the stand and he shot it with his black widow and hit the buck almost the same place you did, just a little bit farther back. The arrow only went in about 3 or 4 inches and we only found a little blood. Latter that same year durring gun season i shot a 23 inch wide 10 point from the same stand. He had a healed up scar where the arrow had hit him.
You lucked out on that shot.

Good job Daniel.  It was really blowing last night.  I saw a 4 and a 6 pointer but no shots.  It looks like you have a beautiful big kind bow also.
