Thinking about picking up this book. I have always admired fred bear and his bows (just couldn't afford his bows at the time).

Even if it sucks (it doesn't) it is part of our history.  It is about us.  Where we came from.  Do it.

I think it's very interesting, you'll enjoy it.

I'd say it's a MUST for Bear fans.  For others, it's simply a classic for your library.

It is a great book with lots of black and white pics of his hunts in Alaska, Canada, Africa and India. It really is his diary of the hunts and he even gives an itemized cost of some of his trips he took to Alaska. Amazing what you could get a hunt for back then.

One of the best books I ever read.

I'm in the middle of reading it right now.  It's good, worth owning, but I like Howard Hill's Hunting the hardway better.

I got got Mr. Bear to sign a copy for me in '76 or '78 when I was in Grayling at the museum.

In 1976 I paid $9.95 for mine.  I consider it an archery classic--right up there with The Witchery of Archery and Hunting With the Bow and Arrow.

Reading this book is compulsory.

well I guess its decided. Ordered it this morning from kustom king and and picking it up today (kustom king is local for me).

Very good read, some of the main reasons I got into traditional archery was because of Fred's books. You should also look into getting "I remember Papa Bear" and "The archers bible".

Good reading...I have 2 copies, one Fred autographed for me. Always treasure this book.

It's a great read, and even better if you have the Fred Bear videos.  You get a lot of "the rest of the story" with the books you don't get from the vids--the narrator on the videos often..."enhances" things.

Have read it many times.  Re-read a treasured FB signed copy about a month ago.....certainly is a great read.

Like Chad said above, the book certainly helps fill in some of the "gaps" in the videos.

its a great read, so is "trailing a bear" by bob munger, its about his and fred's hunts together, and i bet you like that one too.

but for all of the hunting books ive read so far, my favotite is "bows on the little delta" by glenn st. charles. that book was just incredible.

I had two 1st editions that I sent in to have autographed.  Gave one of them to a friend's son for his  25th birthday.  Have picked up several copies of 'Field Notes' from the Legends of the Longbow series, and have given them as gifts to the younger generation that have shown an interest in traditional bowhunting.  Between Fred Bear's Field notes and Bows on the Little Delta I have given away 25-30 copies. Hoping that they will add the extra spark for a lifelong love of traditional bowhunting.
