Hi Everbody, not sure if this is the correct forum but I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm new to this forum and traditional bowhunting. I have been using a compound for 12+ years, but ealier this week my neighbor let me draw his recurve and longbow. I liked the simple set up and frankly, I'm hooked. I think my first trad bow will be a longbow. 45#@28". I think this is a good start for me because my draw length is 26". Anyway, as I get further into trad bowhunting I'll be looking forward to hearing from you. Happy Hunting

Welcome.  It will be a wonderful journey.

It is better to start with a lighter poundage bow when you are starting (45# should be fine) so that you do not develope any bad habits from being overbowed.  Lots of people with lots of good information here.  Have fun

David,
Welcome aboard, you will find a very welcoming fraternity here.  Check out some of the threads the mods have at the top here, if you have a question the search feature can pull up info from past threads for you, but if you don't find what you're looking for don't hesitate to ask.

Welcome!

I am glad you're here. Please keep us posted on your progress.

It's always great to see how the simplicity of the stick and string can capture the adventurous spirit.

You've picked a winner of a place to gather and share information.

Welcome.

This stuff is way much more fun.  Your idea of a long bow based on a 26 " draw is fine, but remember recurves are fine too.  Many people draw passed 30 inches with both.  It is more important to get something that fits you. Most guys will allow you to shoot their bows and you will start to get a feel for what you like.

Good luck, Welcome and most of all Enjoy!
Relax,

You'll live longer!

I have found there are many learned archers here who will un-selfishly share their knolledge to make your journey more enjoyable. Welcome to Tradgang.

Welcome!   :wavey:

If you're drawing 26", then a 45#@28 is going to be around 39# at your draw.  Not sure if you knew that.  Some states have a 40# draw minimum to hunt with in case that's your goal.  IMO, 40-45 is a good weight to start at.
