I was just reading the post about the long periods of time required when mailing things [a riser] to Canada and having to deal with Customs.

Has anyone ever incured difficulties as a result of Canada, the Canadian Postal service, or Customs, [having them try and collect taxes]?

I'm asking in regards to gear you may have sent prior to a hunt in the attempt on cutting down on Excess Baggage Rates incured when traveling?

I don't think in all of the posts I've spent hours reading here on TG, that I have ever seen mention of something like this ruining or delaying a hunt. However, I'm still a bit curious?    :dunno:

Send it way in advence. They shouldn't try to to collect taxes, or any things, if there is no "value" attache to the parcel, ie a gift, or if you mail it to your self. If you have some one to send it to but under your name, it would make it way easier in terms of getting it safe and sound in Canada, since it wouldn't stay at the post office under General Delivery.
That is what I think... sice I never had to do it, I can't say for sure...

I'd just pay the extra luggage charge and fly with my gear.  In the end you won't save much by sending it by post/courier and you'll have the fun of dropping it off at the shippers place then having someone pick it up in Canada for you and the same going home.  Spend the extra hundred bucks or so and be done with it.

I agree with Calgary. I went to BC this this year and had no problem flying with my gear. I think shipping it would cost about the same.

Hey Gene, this economy means good deals now for a hunt since fewer folks are going.
