That's  nice but the first thing that came to my mind was that the head is barbed and would not be legal to shoot in NH and a number of other states. In any event, good luck with this season.

Nice. I'm working on my three arrows now. I'm not really pleased with my rhyolite points but believe that they will be okay. I have picked out and heat straightened the Japanese arrow bamboo that grows in the back yard, and the turkey feathers have now been preparted for fletching except for the final trim. Haven't decided yet which bow to use. It will be either an old self bow (dogwood or osage) or one of the David Knight bamboo backed Ipe that I'm not quiet finished with. Good luck Getstonedprimitivebowhunt and others in the quest for primal adventure.

Always be stubborn.

Captain hindsight to the rescue!

Mechanical heads are not illegal because they do not "lock" out into a barbed position. They will close back with little to no force on them.

Hope that made sense.

Great looking arrows, both of you.

It doesn't matter how or what you shoot, as long as you hit your target.

LeeBishop

really, who would even follow such a stupid rule? I mean come on, they are knapped stone heads. Who cares if they have a barb on them

Thats government "helping" people. I'd hunt with them anyway. I get the feeling that if you're checked by a game warden they will say "Cool. Going old school. Good luck."

Kituwa

Here are my three for this years hunt if i have this photobucket thing figured out right. These shafts are stained with pokeberries and sealed with bee wax.The wrap glue i made with dried pine sap and beewax.

****re-size your pic please****

Pat B

I don't know about expandable heads. That head would be considered barbed because the trailing edge is not 90deg to the shaft. I called the head law enforcement guy for NC DNR and asked him what they meant about a barbed head. He thought for a minute and said...it can't look like a fish hook. Then after a few seconds he said...maybe you should ask the officer that is writing the ticket. So not even the law enforcement can tell me what they meant by a barbed head.
I also hunt GA and SC and neither of them mention barbed heads.
I'll post a few of my stone hunting arrows when Photobucket quits cutting up.
