I've been thinking of getting some groove silencers and changing the string silencers to some thing else as well, my bow shoots a bit noisy. Any suggestions? I have some rubber like whisker things on my string as of now. Thanks, Dave.

Depending on your current string, I would suggest trying a "skinny" string with padded loops. That along with properly adjusted string silencers should be all you need.

Im not familiar with skinny strings. What are the differences between the normal Flemish and a skinny string?

The term "skinny string" refers to strings made of modern low stretch materials with lower strand counts (6 to 10 strand strings are normally referred to as "skinny"). Most string makers use Dacron to pad the loops, offering a softer and quieter shot.

What weight arrow are you shooting compared to the weight of your bow?  

Are you shooting longbow or recurve?

Have you tried changing your brace height? What is the recommended brace height?

What brand of bow are you shooting? Have you contacted the bowyer to see if he has any suggestions regarding this issue?

Its probably best not to shoot fast flight or "skinny strings" on old recurve bows.  For the minimal performance enhancement, it;'s not worth a broken bow.

For your recurve, I would suggest a b-50 or B-55 string, pad the limbs where the string hits them with mole skin and wrap the string with yarn from the loops down about 5 inches.  Then add large wool puff or hush puppies, shoot heavy arrows and I bet your bow is quieter than many longbows out there.

I do not know my arrow weight, 48@28 recurve brace height is where the brass knock point was at when I bought the bow Hoyt Game master, I don't believe it's the second edition.

The brace height would be the distance from the string to the deepest part of the handle.  On my RER, the noise goes up as the string stretches and the brace decreases.  Not sure what your brace should be on your bow - maybe check with hoyt.

Too light of an arrow will also increase noise is why Gatekeeper is asking.  Most guys will shoot for around 10 grains of arrow for each pound of pull.(ballpark)  A heavy arrow will be quieter.

The yarn suggestion is a good one on the b-50 or b-55 string.  Not hard to do and there are some videos in the how to section (or on the internet)
