I only just found out about this - so so sad to learn of his passing.

When I first got into archery I was working in Northern Iowa and drove two hours after work on a whim to visit Lamont's shop. Unfortunately, he didn't have any left-handed bows in stock but he did have an old beat up orange fiberglass longbow that could be shot either lefty or righty. He didn't even charge me for it.

It wasn't much (in fact my room mates made fun of me for shooting it), but it was the bow I learned to shoot with and it meant everything to me.

A few months later I ran into him at a shoot and tried to give it back to him. He told me to keep it.

Someday I'll give it to someone else who is just starting out, but for now I am proud to own it.

Great man. I miss him.

Nice story,it's nice to hear the "little orange bow" will continue on it's journey.

That is a Lamont story all right. He was a great guy that did much to promote the sport.

My condolences to Lamont's family. I always admired his integrity and will never forget a SD Bowhunter state convention years ago when Lamont made my 5 year old son a deal on a leather quiver ($5) just so he could afford to buy it. It was worth far more than that, but Lamont would not even think of taking more for it. He wanted my son to own it. Truly a great man.

I just purchased one of Lamont's 'old' bows off of the classifieds from chetterB.  It is a lefty Big River Hill style bow.  lt is a beautiful bow and I'm going to name it 'La Grange' for two reasons:  1. to honor Lamont, 2.  My wife is from Texas and the reverend who married us was based in LaGrange and we met with him there the day before our wedding so he could see how we got along and give us his blessing.  Looking forward to shooting Lamont's bow.
