...That when deer season isn't open and I'm out squirrel hunting that there are literally deer everywhere and I'm able to get within 25 yards of them no problem, and never once see a squirrel?

Then when I'm out deer hunting it seems like all I ever see is squirrels and no deer?

I have a funny feeling this season is going to be different than years past.  I have a new place to hunt and my "good feelings" are higher than normal.  These next two weeks are going to be killer on me waiting for deer season to open.

The best part of the hunt was that Magnus called me to say he received the feathers I sent him and when my cell phone rang, 4 does stood up and looked around for what was making the noise.  I started talking to Matt, and they just acted like I wasn't even there, so when I got done I called my buddy to tell him what was happening and the whole tIme I was saying "hello deer, here I am, over here" and they didn't seem to care, but once I reached that 20-25 yard threashold they had enough and just walked off.  Just a weird experience.

When I was young and just starting to hunt I asked the same question.  An old guy (I'm an old guy now) told me deer probably have calendars and know when the season starts.

He also told me that they can read posted signs and I should learn how to read them too.  Good advice.

It could be the material they print your deer tags on.   I swear a brown bear can smell a locking kill tag (required).   Whenever I have one with me I can't find a bear to save my life, when I don't have one they are all over the place  :)

hmmmm, you might be on to something there, Thebear_78.

Might be those "vibes" Gene Wensel wrote about where animals can sense danger.
