sprained thumb- any advice on shooting?

Well, my system of conditioning playing ice hockey threw me a little curve yesterday just ahead of my week in the backcountry after elk. In a major train wreak on the ice I sprained my thumb on my bow hand.

No sympathy needed, but advice on how I can rig a splint to shoot my bow might help. I iced it right away and hit the ibuprofen. But today it is very tender. Drat is an understatement.

Anyone else face this issue?

Have you tried wrapping it with an ace bandage? Should help some and as a buffer between your hand and the bow. Hope you heal soon!

Second on the ace bandage. Lot of ice and ibuprofen like you are already doing. Maybe also consider a bow strap to tie your hand to the bow.

Like a Stiff-Type Removeable Splint, along with a Bow Strap to keep the Hand on the Bow??  ALONG  with the  ACE  Bandage,  ICE USAGE: after Shooting, 10 min. On, 10 Min. Off using a Washcloth between Ice Bag & Skin. Try holding Hand above HeartLevel to reduce the Throbbing, and whatever Pain Killer Suits your Stomach!!  :readit:    AND  like any  Boo-Boo ..... DONT RUSH IT!!    :saywhat:

My best advice...let it rest a bit first.

Been there done that, except, I broke the bone between my wrist and my thumb...that one where the thumb starts.

Now, it has a curve in it, that just happens to be the shape of a bow handle.

A sprain involves soft tissue, and the more you irritate it, the longer it takes to heal.

Your best bet is "patience". Leave it rest and don't aggravate the injury. You just can't hurry Time to heal.
